Emergence noun. 1. The process of becoming visible after being concealed. 2. The process of coming into existence or prominence. 3. In philosophy, art, and systems theory, a process where complex systems can exhibit properties none of its constituent parts possess.
Sometimes, when something emerges, you’re better off not knowing.
A routine security operation requiring no input from the investigation division turns into a hunt for a malicious hacker when one of the world’s most popular musicians is targeted. Fox Meridian and her team must fly to Japan to keep Nishi Sakura and her girlfriend, Charlie Iberson, safe from a skilled, manipulative man known only as Minotaur.
But as organised crime becomes involved and an old enemy resurfaces, the stakes for Fox and everyone around her have never been higher.

I just finished Teasdale's 5th Fox Merida book, and I think it might be the best so far in the series. This series has as running undercurrent the issue of machine intelligence, whereas the protagonist (Fox) is a detective, and the main plots are her activities as such, supported by her company (Martech) and her AI, Kit. The development of the AI theme through the series is viewed from Fox's non-expert point in essentially raising a self-aware AI.The climax of this book takes that whole theme to a new level, possibly more inclusively than has been done before in SiFi literature. Without giving a spoiler, I think this is an excellently written and thought provoking treatment, as well as a really good yarn.
Would recommend readers not start here, but follow the whole series to here. Stiil, this is enough of a stand alone to read by itself -- you'll just miss the richness of character development and ploting.
A few reviewers have deplored Teasdale's rather heavy use of sex, with details. I think most of that does go to character development, and only a small part to titilation, but that is part of the story. I will note that it adds subplots to the story, as well as an extra sense of realism. Much of life, and a large segment of mainstream fiction are as involved with sex, and with far less "meat" to the other plot elements.
A great read.

Emergence Fox Meridian Book 5 eBook Niall Teasdale Reviews
I knew there were changes coming for Fox, but never thought it would go that far. Don't really have any complaints and thoroughly enjoyed the read. I am wondering where this is going and if it is a bridge to another series?
Possibly the best one of the series, The characters were better developed and Fox was a much better fleshed out character than the sex bot in earlier books. The ending was fitting and provides opportunity for a new direction rather than the same old thing.
I love this series as well as Aneka series but I feel like the Fox books are becoming more and more like Aneka books. (Spoiler Alert) Now that she's become an android it's getting way to similar to Aneka. Unless the idea is to somewhat bring the worlds together (which would be cool) I don't understand why the author would want to write something they've already basically written. Still a great series though.
Just finished all 5 books. Characters were very interesting and engaging. The case for true AI was made, quite well I thought. The action was also very well described and some of it shocking in it's visceral impact ,as expected from Niall Teasdale novel. I went back and forth over 4 and 5 stars, but settled at 4 for one reason. I felt just a little let down at the ending.as there was much more I was ready to have. I'm really, really hoping there is another in the works. Read them as if you have not read any other Tea dale books and you will be rewarded handsomely.
As the series progresses, the main characters (Fox M, AI Kit, Teresa, so forth) and New characters (Topeka and Japan new hires) become to parallel plot lines. This one about a the Yakuza and an obsessed tech specialist was interesting at the level of both intrigue and drama - when will he strike, how good can he get, will Kit's friend Vali step up, will they catch him. The title I suspect refers to the AI bundle potential class 5 'Fei' that is a mystery unraveling.
One carry over from the previous comes at the end and we almost lose Fox, she is saved but will she ever be the same? Good stuff. Have already started reading the next installment.
Another excellent installment in the Fox books. As usual, quite enjoyed the world building and speed/character/action of the books. There's not to many dull points etc. I was surprised a bit by the ending of the book. I hope this won't go too much into something like the Aneka Jansen books (which are also excellent) but sort of feels like it now. Then again the next one will be out, if on Nialls normal publishing schedule, in about 15 more minutes. Niall Teasdale is one of the most prolific authors I've ever read. Most are 1 maybe 2 a years. Feels more like 1 to 2 a quarter. I know it's not but still feels that way.
Anyway, excellent book, again! Some very dark parts but still a very good read.
Fox and company return. The book is slow to begin spending much of the first third touching base with the various characters. Note if you have not read the earlier books you will have trouble keeping track. Once the action picks up with the return of the serial killer from the earlier book it moves long nicely. Teasdale introduced the idea of storing the mind on computers and downloading it into robotic bodies in the Aneka Jansen series. The Fox series is increasingly feeling like that earlier series and I get the feeling I have seen all of this before.
